On the 23rd of oct we did science with mr Cronin we learnt to extract liquid from liquid. I learnt that a solution is like cordial and water that mix together but a mixture is where the liquids create layers.

The first task was to try and separate all the different liquids and how the best way to separate the liquids. I found that oil is one of the lightest liquids and that the condescend milk was the heaviest liquid.

Task two was to try and separate oil from cordial when you do mix these things the oil sets to the top. When we tried to separate the the mixture by slowly pouring the oil into another cup but the cordial mixed when we were pouring. The best way to do it was using a syringe.

The last task was to separate dirt and water. first we used a stockings to get the big lumps of dirt because only the water and little folicals of dirt go through lastly used a filter paper to get the water as clean as possible

In our unit we are learning about mixtures. Today we chose a partner I chose Nikita then we then got a containor full of rice, glitter, beads, paperclips, pom-poms and shells we also got six empty containers we were aloud to only use baking paper tin foil and three small magnet.

We had 20 mins to separate all of these elements. Nikita and I separated the pom-poms first shells second and lastly got the beads out with our hands after once we did that we got the paper clips out using the magnets. Lastly we had to Separate the rice and glitter that was the hardest part of the task with 10 minutes left we struggled to separate it in the end we actually didn’t actually get it full separated as you can see in the photos but we had fun doing it. When we where separating the glitter we used many technics many of Which we’re different types of sieves. The one big thing that I learnt was there were many different out comes when you think about it.
